Experimental Studies on the Effect of High Cholesterol Diet upon the Testis and Blood Lipids

Abstract
|

|
Forty healthy male abino rabbits weighing around 1.8 kg were used for the experiment and divided into 2 groups:
1. Control group fed basic diet
2. Cholesterol administered group fed basic with cholesterol 500 mg/kg, corn oil 1.5 g/kg, bile salt 50 mg/kg per day.
The result obtained from this experiment were as follows:
1. In the cholesterol administered group, the testes revealed various degree of swelling or degeneration, desquamation of spermatogenic cells and focal atrophy of the seminiferous tubules.
2. Serum lipid levels (cholesterol, triglyceride, phospholipid), very low density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein were increased and high density lipoprotein decreased significantly as compared with those of control group.
